Fungus Gnats like to lay their eggs on moist soil with many organic matters. To keep surface soil dry, I exposed them to the sun and try bottom watering.

Observation: the soil might is still wet with bottom watering, unless I stop watering. This might stop gnats from laying eggs, but it has no effects on little gnats already in the pot.

There are some nice fruity alcohol smell.

Build Gnat Trap

I tried 3 variety of ingredients for Gnat trap

  • Combo 1: Home-made enzyme, Brown Sugar and Liquid Dish Soap
  • Combo 2: Brown Sugar, Fruit (Promogrenade) Skin and Liquid Dish Soap
  • Combo 3: White Vinigar, Brown Sugar and Liquid Dish Soap

I prepare the liquid combo in a glass, wrap the top with a plastic and poke holes in the plastic. Theoritically, the liquid combo will attract the Gnats, and the plastic with holes will trap them within. The liquid dish soap is supposed to reduce water surface tension and trap the Gnats in water.

This is the most healthy plant at the moment, recovering after applying fertilizer.

Seems to be growing healthy, though it has some brown growth.

Two visible red sprouts.

Another onion rotted.

All 3 shallots has grown roots, but not sprouted yet.

The problem with planting them with leca balls is that I damaged with roots easily when changing water.

I am going to plant them on plastic egg holder floating on a water container.
