Since Brinjal is a warm-weather vegetable, I decide to grow them at the balcony. I shall experiment with 3 different soil.
Since Brinjal is a warm-weather vegetable, I decide to grow them at the balcony. I shall experiment with 3 different soil.
Baba Seedling Mix: first to sprout, 2 seedlings.
Baba Vegimix: second to sprout, 1 seedling.
Gafri Gardener 8 in 1 Organic Potting Mix: last to sprout, 1 seedling.
Seedlings in Baba Vegimix and Gafri Gardener is much smaller than the seedlings planted with Baba Seedling Mix. Will repot the small seedlings to see if they would grow bigger.
Interesting to note Baba Seedling Mix is doing so much better compared to other non seedling mix soil.
Still too early to tell if the repoting done 4 days ago helps the other smaller seedlings grow better.
This seedlings need to be watered twice a day, probably time to repot them.
Fertilize every two weeks: organic fertilizer, larvie frass / vermicast, egg shell.
The transplanted plant's leaves are turning light green, with some bottom leaves fallen off.
It probably suffer some shock when separating the roots during transplant, with most of the original soil removed.
Hopefully they will recover.
Transplant to bigger pot. Using Superior soil mix with compost, mix some perlite and coco peat, then add some larvie frass and egg shell.
The brinjal plants has grown pretty leafy.
It has been 13 weeks, while harvest is possible at week 16. Hopefully there shall be some success.
First I noticed a lot of ants going up the plant, then I saw some white spots on the plant. I believe these are mealybug, where it left a sweet liquid to attract the ants, which in turn the ants protect the mealy bugs from predator.
I use a toothpick to remove the white spot from the plants, and spray it with home made pesticide (need oil + organic dish water).
