Nutrient / Fertilizer

Nitrogen

  • For growth
  • When low in nitrogen, plant is small and leaves is pale green. Older leaves may turn yellow.

Phosphorous

  • Root establishment and early growth of vegetable
  • When low in Phosphorous, older leaves turn purple.

Potassium

  • Overral
  • When low in potassium, older leaves turn yellow and brown around the edge.

Organic Fertilizer

  • Apply early as it takes longer to be absorbed

How to apply

  • Around the plant (not directly at the base), and try to mix it slightly with the soil.
  • Water it.
  • Apply nutrient every 2~4 weeks.

Avoid Bottom Fruit Rot for Capsicum or Tomato

  • Add calsium (or egg shell) in advance before fruiting

Root Plant (Carrot)

  • Avoid high nitrogen.

Update for #34: Grow Choy Sam From Seed

Transplant second pot of Choy Sam as it seems crowded.

I experiment with 3 sizes of pots.

I realize the new pot is probably too small (especially the bottom) to plant 6 garlic cloves for bulb, so I decide to transplant them to a bigger Styrofoam box.

The original pot is 11in in diameter, but sadly the bottom is much narrower.
